Departs Broken Hill to Cobar, Bourke, Louth, Tilpa, White Cliffs, Wilcannia, Broken Hill, Mungo, Mildura 

Travel down the mighty Darling River Run from Bourke to Wilcannia then Broken Hill, with a visit to White Cliffs opals fields & miners stores. Then more Darling River Run from Menindee to Pooncarie and Mungo NP to Wentworth and Mildura.  

Day 1 - Depart 8 am from Broken Hill to Cobar,  where we check out the fascinating museum displaying Cobars hey days of Copper Mining and visit the Miners Memorial. The Great Cobar Copper Mine was the largest copper mine in Australia. At its peak around 1912 it directly employed over 1,000 people and provided work for at least another thousand. It's processing works included the tallest chimney stack in the southern hemisphere.  The founding of the Great Cobar led to other exploration and further mineral discoveries of silver and gold.  In the early years of the 1900s, Cobar and LOCAL towns between them supported a population of some 15,000 people.  

Day 2 - Cobar to Bourke  - Travel through the Western Plains of NSW with its big history of sheep and wool production. An optional stop at the Gundabooka National Park for a scenic walk, and to view ancient Aboriginal Rock art then to Bourke and the Back O'Bourke Exhibition Centre before a real live Jandra Paddle Boat cruise, on the Darling River. Dinner at the Port of Bourke Hotel then Overnight Bourke

Day 3 - Today we start the Darling River Run, and travel on the banks of Australia’s longest river, the Darling River via historic Louth, and Tilpa plus visit Dunlop Station, a huge sheep station of the 1800's. It boasts a 45 stand and first mechanical woolshed owned by Sir Samuel McCaughey (Riverina irrigation pioneer). Travel viaa the Paroo-Darling National Park to White Cliffs opal fields, to Overnight and sleep underground.

Day 4 - Explore White Cliffs settlement and opal fields, with at source opal buying opportunities, then back to the Darling River to Wilcannia before arriving Broken Hill for the evening and dinner at the famous Mario's Palace Hotel.

Day 5 - Broken Hill to Menindee Kinchega NP Mungo NP & Sunset Tour

Depart Broken Hill and make our way to the stunning Mungo National Park, a World Heritage-listed site of immense cultural and natural significance. On the way we visit Menindee Lakes and the site of Burke and Wills Menindee depot camp.

We then follow the Darling River Run to Pooncarie, a pretty spot and once bustling port on the Darling River

At Mungo National park, explore the National Park display and information centre, plus historic resrtoered woolshed. Late afternoon join a sunbset tour inside the park to the Walls of China, a striking formation of ancient lunettes that bear witness to the region's Aboriginal heritage and the stories of its traditional custodians, including Mungo Man and Mungo Woman. Immerse yourself in the rich history of the park, including the restored woolshed, which offers insights into the region's pastoral heritage. As you explore the park, take in the sweeping views of the vast Mungo landscape, shaped by millennia of natural processes. Overnight Mungo National Park at Mungo Lodge 

Day 6 – Mungo Wentworth Mildura 

From Mungo we travel to Wentworth and visit the junction of the Murray and Darling Rivers, Australia’s biggest river system and also visit Wentworth Pioneer Museum with life-size megafauna replicas from the local area including the cuddly 2-metre high Diprotodons. Check out the history of the Fergies, who saved Wentworth from floods, and visit PS Ruby, and large and lovely old paddle steamer resting by the river. The PS Ruby is an authentic 1907 heritage paddle steamer. Back in the day the steam chambers used to breathe life into the powerful paddles propelling the 205 ton riverboat. 

We cross the border to Victoria over the Murray River to Mildura the main hub of the Sunraysia region. The region is renowned for its sunshine, intensive horticulture including grapes and oranges. Overnight Mildura 

Day 7 – Tour completes Mildura after breakfast 

Return by train or plane, or continue to Lake Eyre or Cameron Corner Country & Tibooburra or Adelaide
