Day 1 – Explore Litchfield National Park, one to view spectacular features such as Magnetic Termite Mounds and majestic waterfalls. Discover permanent waterfalls such as Tolmer, Wangi and Florence Falls and watch, walk or swim in a number of these. Also swimming opportunity at beautiful Buley Rockhole We travel via Adelaide River for Pine Creek, an historic gold mining and railway town significant to Northern Territory development. Enroute we pass numerous World War II airfields critical to the defence of Australia in WWII. Adelaide River is where Crocodile Dundee’s downed water buffalo resides in a local bar. Day 2 – This morning we take the short drive to Nitmiluk National Park to enjoy a 2 hour (or optional more) river cruise in spectacular Katherine Gorge. Options also for a helicopter flight to remote gorges and rock art sites, or a canoe hire and paddle on the Gorge ! After lunch, we travel to Edith Falls and an afternoon swim and relax by this beautiful waterhole. Overnight Edith Falls. BLD
Day 3 – Today, take a morning walk to the top of Edith Falls to the swimming holes, or simply relax by the waterside. Later, we’re back on the highway, and travel a few hours via Mary River Roadhouse, to enter World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, and arrive at Cooinda. Afternoon visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre or simply relax by the pool at Cooinda Lodge. Alternatively take an optional scenic flight from Cooinda airstrip. We view the stunning sunset over Yellow Waters, and the spectacular evening return of 1000s of Magpie Geese to their rest for the night. Optional evening wetlands cruise. Dinner & overnight Cooinda. Day 4 – Board the informative morning Yellow Waters wetlands cruise amongst extraordinary birdlife & crocodiles in this World Heritage listed wetlands. Now we are ready for Jim Jim Falls – a 60km 4WD drive and 1km walk to the Jim Jim Falls Plunge Pool. This walk takes you through monsoon forest and over boulders to a deep plunge pool surrounded by spectacular 150 metre high cliffs. After an energetic day, return to dinner & overnight at Cooinda. BL
Day 5 – Today commences with a spectacular walk amongst the stunning Nourlangie Rock art – a highlight of Kakadu. We visit the Bowali Visitor Centre, and gain an appreciation of the special nature of this World rated National Park. After a look at the township of Jabiru, take the picturesque drive to Ubirr Rock. Walk through amazing Aboriginal Art galleries, then to a spectacular lookout over the wetlands. Optional viewing and/or visit to nearby Ranger Uranium Mine, or scenic flight. Return to Darwin late afternoon, and tour completion. BL
